WNBA Preseason: Australia NT (66) – Minnesota (82)

No surprise in the first preseason game of the WNBA Champions, the Minnesota Lynx, that beat the Australian National Team by 16 points last night. Captained by the unstoppable Maya Moore, who recorded 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals y 24 minutes, the Lynx easily passed through the Opals, who missed most of their stars for this match.

In Minnesota, apart from Moore, the most outstanding player of the game was Walteia Rolle, who scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds off the bench. Also, Tan White, the veteran guard signed as a free agent this summer, showed that she is ready to step up and be a good cover Lindsay Whalen or Seimone Augustus, as she dished 8 assists. Finally, together with Rolle, Damiris Dantas , the brazilian Center, and Asia Taylor, the Louisville forward, are the ones that will likely to make the roster and add interior depth to the Lynx, that are looking for more options in the post for the upcoming season.

With respect to the Australian NT, only two players had a notable game: Gabrielle Richards, one of the top Australian centers, scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 20 minutes; while Rebecca Allen, the promising young forward that had a sensational second half at the Australian WNBL, recorded 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals, while shooting 3/3 triples.

Anyway, neither team show all their cards on this game. The Australian NT missed the likes of Cambage, Jackson, Snell, Taylor or Phillips, who this year at last seems to be counted on by her NT. On the other side, Minnesota didn’t play Whalen, Augustus, Brunson, McCarville, Wright and Peters. This means both teams took this game more as a trial for their youngest players than as a preparatory match.
